About me.

My worldview in brief - I am a left-anarchist, anti-propertarian libertarian socialist, a disillusioned former "anarcho-"capitalist, detached strong atheist and materialist, and moral pragmatist.

Other than that, an irreducible complexity.

So, I see that other people are writing novels when it comes to comments, and I am starting to feel jealous.........

On a side note, when it comes to that metaphysical question, that being the proper noun to use about the belief in a god (or the lack thereof), I prefer to stick with the good ole' term: Atheist. :O

Are your wrists taped up for a long night of video-game playing, or what?

Indeed, anarchism is a vantage point from which I too can never picture going back. Another very interesting book that addresses spirituality and anarchism is ANARCHIC HARMONY: THE SPIRITUALITY OF SOCIAL DISOBEDIENCE by William J. Murray (no relationship to the famous actor/comedian). It was published by the now (sadly) defunct Loompanics Unlimited, purveyors of some of the most fun books I've ever read. I think Mike Hoy (that was the proprietor from 1976 to 2006) still has something of a website at www.loompanics.com and may still be vending copies of books that have not yet sold out. I was so sad to see them go, though. The San Juan Star, of all newspapers (it's the sole English language newspaper in Puerto Rico) payed LU the ultimate compliment by branding them "the lunatic fringe of the libertarian movement. I love that... :-)

If programming classes put you to sleep, you probably shouldn't bother with them. I was thinking more along the lines of teaching yourself (which you seem to enjoy) a scripting language (Ruby, Python, Perl, etc.) from a book or web tutorial. You might consider doing that when you have a good use for one.
Complex analysis can be challenging. I enjoyed abstract algebra quite a bit. As I recall that class marked my change from Chemistry to Math major.

I'm right on the verge of reading a book highly recommended to me by an anarchist friend, TOTAL FREEDOM: TOWARD A DIALECTICAL LIBERTARIANISM by Chris Matthew Sciabarra. And, I like the reference to Falwell... :-) You raise some very advanced points regarding theology, including the fine line between gnostic and agnostic atheism.
As to agnosticism itself and ignosticism, I do not consider myself so divorced from the consideration or concept of a divine presence so as to adopt the ignostic view. At a certain level, emotion enters the equation, and in tandem with logic, breeds a kind of indefinable introspection. If that sounds overly mystical or obfuscant, my apologies -- that's just the way I find things. I cannot in all truth profess to have no conception of a possible definition -- or several thereof -- of God. I only question whether there is such or no. I've never had any dilemma with the concept of divine presence as a whole. It is, however, a fascinating concept to explore. As an aside, have I ever stated how remarkably well-schooled and insightful you are for a young woman your age? I had not even half the knowledge you possess when I was in high school (read, government controlled and tax financed youth concentration camp).

It is true that if one adopts an "organized" religion, or even if one makes moral choices or decides upon particular courses of action based upon possible spiritual consequences (i.e., getting in trouble with a deity, etc.), that this is in a sense no different than accepting rule by a government (it might be argued worse, since you actively chose such subordination). I would agree that adopting such a religious stance is incompatible with anarchism. That said, I'm continually amazed, even in spite of what you and I have just illustrated, at the number of anarchists who are atheists. I still think there's plenty of room for spiritual beliefs and involvement which does not contravene one's anarchism. It's simply a matter of not prostrating yourself, as it were, before any god or deity. There's nothing wrong with believing in a creator, or the possibility of one (or many!), or the continuation of existence in some form after physical death, so long as you don't let such a belief interfere with your free will one iota. For myself, it's easy. I'm an agnostic, and so neither believe or disbelieve. God is very much an open question with me. So, it is in fact more like scientific inquiry than metaphysics (though I often think the two are inextricably intertwined -- tomorrow's latter becomes today's former).

Good thing your "teachers" didn't have any influence in 1781(end of the American Revolution and British rule), 1945 (end of Nazi Germany), or 1991 (end of Soviet Union) -- or those things might never have happened. Granted, none of them brought true market anarchy, but they were steps in the right direction, and they happened because people refused, ultimately, to "just accept" things as they were. Anarchy can work -- and will, I believe. There are those who make history, and those who simply go along with it. I know where I'd rather be standing...and I think you do too. NEVER ACCEPT THE STATUS QUO! ALWAYS FIGHT CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE AND PROPERTY BY OTHERS, AT ONCE, AND TO THE VERY LAST EXTENT! www.tolfa.us
