Some information on me . . .

I most closely align with Agorism, but sympathize with anyone who wishes to live without rulers other than themselves (leaving aside the question of whether one should actually be considered a "self-ruler").

I've been around a fairly long time. I read Heinlein, Rand and LeGuin when in my teens and early twenties, marched against the Vietnam war, while getting a degree with majors in math and philosophy. I've worked with computers on and off (programming: both applications and systems; pre-Internet network configuration; LANs; Consulting: internal and independent; wrote a book; lately some Web stuff) since the early 70s.

After trying to "work within the system" through the Libertarian Party, I eventually came to realize that, not only power, but politics itself corrupts. I left the LP a few years ago (it seemed to take a while to disconnect) and have dabbled in a few web oriented projects since: Ender's Review, Endervidualism and lately I've played a little bit with a blog of my own. Speaking of blogs, I also conspire with Sunni and occasionally contribute to The Sudden Curve.

Finally read the whole thing. Damn fine book... and eerily prophetic. Not sure if the "revolution" would go down exactly like that... But it's plausible.

Just received this from Amazon. The desciption on the back looks good. Got one other book to finish before I start this one.

Read the first few chapters, and was immediately hooked. This will be my very next dead-tree book purchase. I've already got the book in PDF format, but I much prefer a paper book. (easier to take with me)

Cool, Tom! Did you try to ensure that the strains stayed true? (My understanding is that can get complicated pretty quick, depending upon what all one's growing.) I'm foregoing an outdoor garden this year (though it grieves me greatly), but will ...

I am also saving seeds! Orange Honeydew. Mmmmm. Also I just picked up a book called The Urban Homestead by kelly coyne and erik knutzen. They got a block at http://www.homegrownevolution.com/, check it out. Good fun.

Wow, you've got me spot on twice. First time you mentioned analysis, second time you mentioned teaching myself programming, the latter of which I'm also trying to work on. I'm like, "Fuck it, I'm just gonna give programming a second chance." There's some good online tutorials, so I'm going through those along with my very long list of articles (about every subject you could think of, I currently have e-articles about writing instruments, Minoan civilization, Ramses I, the first galaxies, quantum physics, atheistic apologetics, and a few others along with an ebook by Rothbard, in my Firefox tabs).
And I like math when it's challenging, otherwise it's usually no fun.

Ahh, I tried a programming class my junior year but it put me to sleep everyday, so I dropped it for the following semester. I love math and logic, but for computers I'm quite content with learning only what I need to know. I do need a basic background in computer science for a lot of majors, so I will probably end up learning a little.
Analysis, that's funny you mentioned that. I've actually been trying to teach myself complex analysis this week. I learnt de Moivre's theorem when I was 15, so the lessons I can follow perfectly well, but the problems introduce ideas that I'm not familiar with. Regardless, it's still good to get some grasp of what I will be expected to do. I'm still determined to master it, so I'll grab a textbook with easier-to-follow problems (and hopefully an index) when I get back to campus. I'm also working on understanding the gist of abstract algebra, discrete math, and every other field.

(Sorry about the delay, I sometimes forget or I'm busy.)
I see. I'm not as much of a computer person, although I get "average joes" thinking of me as a computer whiz simply because I can extract zip files or go into the /windows/fonts to check if a font installed correctly. I don't know any programming languages either, but I'll learn some computer trick or stuff if I have to.
And last week my finite math homework was finding the x- and y-intercepts of y=mx+b equations... yes, the honors finite course. I knew about intercepts at age 11, so like usual I'm always browsing Wolfram MathWorld (best online resource ever) and looking up concepts like elliptical integrals and Banach spaces. Math was always my best, favorite and most loved subject my whole life. I'm partially considering a major/minor in it, but if I end up doing an astronomy/astrophysics (rather likely) the math part will come along with it anyways.

I've formally studied up to calculus II, currently taking a honors finite math class that's kind of retarded, but I make up for it by reading up on linear algebra and other math topics. I've always loved most kinds of math, some fields like trigonometry and finite a little less than others though.
I use Ubuntu 8.04 although currently dealing with a string of issues that keep popping up due to the university recently requiring us to register computers for internet security, so I'm working in my Vista partition right now. Haven't really tried out other Linux OS's yet though, what about you?
